Q1. What three words best describe Oh Susannah: It’s In The Bag?
Thoughtful, intense, ruminative.

Q2. Grab a copy of Oh Susannah: It’s In The Bag and answer the following:
Favorite chapter?  Banana Goes to School—the kitchen scene when her oatmeal is congealing in her plate. Obligation and the ever-present ticking of the clock dictate both Susannah, her mother, and her father’s lives.

Favorite page? The last page when her mother sees the dreaded invitation to a party and Susannah’s cryptic response.

Favorite illustration? The cover page—Susannah swinging on her star with abandon, her shoelaces untied, and her stuffed school bag lying abandoned on the back cover.

Flip to a random page and give us a 1-2 sentences teaser: “Susannah gulped again. “But there are spiders in your basement.” She wanted to remind Lola about the ghosts but remembered Lola didn’t believe in them.”

Q3. What do you hope young readers learn from and/or walk away with after reading Oh Susannah: It’s In The Bag?
We live in a busy world. There is so much constantly going on. Susannah is overwhelmed with homework, her social life, and school. She keeps shoving things into her schoolbag rather than deal with them. Her parents are busy with work and responsibilities. We have to learn to share our troubles, ask for help, and put things in perspective. We need to make time for each other and when we do, really listen to what each person is saying.

Q4. From the perspective of your character, Susannah Logan, answer the following:
I’m really awesome at being a friend.

I’m really embarrassed to admit I thought I could hide all my problems and I am afraid of the ghost in Lola’s house.

If I had one wish, I’d wish for a star to swing from.

Q5. If you were to create and bake a cupcake inspired by Oh Susannah: It’s In The Bag, what would it look and taste like, and what would you call it?
The Stuffed Backpack. Chocolate cupcake crammed jellybeans, M and M’s, banana frosting.
